Reunion Weekend Unites Marist Alumni with Celebrations and Tributes

The festivities began on Friday, April 26, with a special 60th anniversary reunion for the esteemed Class of 1964, the second class to graduate from Marist School's Ashford Dunwoody location. This milestone event, meticulously organized by members of the class and led by Bob Bockman ’64, featured a morning reception and presentation by Marist School President J.D. Childs and Board of Trustees Chair Bill Roche ’76. The alumni were updated on the school's recent accomplishments and ongoing mission, followed by a campus tour conducted by student ambassadors and Mass in Esmond Brady Memorial Chapel.

"We are deeply grateful to host alumni from such an important part of our history," said President Childs. "I was grateful to have been asked to present on the state of the school to the Class of 1964 and enjoyed hearing their reflections and feedback."

The evening saw a vibrant Black Alumni mixer at Eclipse Di Luna, attended by graduates from the classes of ’83, ’89, ’99, ’01, and ’13, alongside President Childs. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for Black alumni to reconnect. “The goal is to have another gathering in August before the next school year begins,” said Alumni Engagement Coordinator Daniel Morrison ’13.

On Saturday, the reunion party on campus brought together all classes marking milestone reunions, specifically those ending in fours and nines, for a unified celebration dubbed "Nine Classes, One Party." Reminiscent of the Welcome Back BBQs of recent years, the event featured food trucks from Gezzo’s West Coast Burritos, Sweet Auburn BBQ, and The Varsity. Matt Osborne ’85 served as DJ, adding to the festive atmosphere, while attendees enjoyed guided walking tours of campus. "Having everyone together for one big party this year made the celebration even more special," remarked Director of Alumni Engagement Katie Fowler Brown ’06.

Sunday morning was dedicated to honoring Marist’s late Band Director Mr. Mark Craddock with a poignant event that celebrated his enduring legacy. The band room was officially named in his memory, paying tribute to his significant impact on the Marist community. The establishment of the Mark C. Craddock Memorial Scholarship, funded by generous contributions from the school community, also was announced. This scholarship will provide tuition assistance to students in need, with priority given to those involved in the band program, ensuring that Mr. Craddock's passion for music and education will inspire future generations.

Following the blessing and dedication, the community gathered for a Family Mass in Young Gym in Centennial Center. Over a dozen alumni musicians and singers served as music ministers. A reception followed, allowing attendees to enjoy further fellowship and reminisce about their Marist experiences.

The Reunion Weekend concluded on Monday with the annual Alumni Golf Tournament at the Capital City Club in Brookhaven. Alumni enjoyed a day of friendly competition, culminating in the 19th Hole Reception, where sponsors and participants were thanked, and the day's winners were celebrated.

Marist School's Reunion Weekend was a resounding success, offering alumni a chance to reconnect, toast their shared history, and honor the individuals who have made lasting contributions to the school community.

Save the date for next year’s Alumni Weekend April 26-28, 2025, when graduating classes ending in zeros and fives will celebrate their milestone reunions.
