Marist Fine Arts Shows Dazzle Audiences

The season began with the Foundations spring musical “Tuck Everlasting: Theatre for Young Audiences Edition”, which ran in Woodruff Auditorium May 9-11. This adaptation of Natalie Babbitt's beloved children's classic, brought to life on stage by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle, tells the enchanting story of 11-year-old Winnie Foster. Yearning for adventure beyond her white picket fence, Winnie encounters the mysterious Tuck family, who share their secret of immortality.

Gabriella Bozzelli ’29, who portrayed Winnie Foster, shared her excitement and appreciation for the production. “Tuck Everlasting was such a fun experience and a beautiful show,” she said. “I made so many great friendships and learned so much throughout the entire show. I was lucky to be part of such an amazing and talented cast.”

Marist Theater Director Mr. Eric McNaughton ’90 said, “These middle school kids told a beautiful story in a really lovely way.”

Following the musical, the Bishop Gunn Art Gallery hosted the Advanced Placement (AP) Student Art Show Opening Reception on May 10. This exhibition, running for a week, displayed the diverse and innovative works of Marist's AP art students. It was succeeded by the Fine Arts End of Term Student Arts Show, which opened on May 17, offering another opportunity for students to exhibit their developing artistic talents.

Music took center stage during Term 3. The Spring Band Concert in Woodruff Auditorium on May 14 demonstrated the skill and hard work of Marist's young musicians, directed by Band Director Mr. Aaron Schmitt and Assistant Band Director Mr. Ben Barber.

Two days later, on May 16, the Senior High Spring Choral Concert charmed audiences with encore performances of the a cappella numbers from April’s 10th annual Sing-Off competition. The concert was followed by a reception that allowed attendees to celebrate the performers and offer final praise to the Class of 2024 singers.

The final choral event of the season, the Foundations "Blue and Gold" Spring Choral Concerts for 7th and 8th graders, took place on May 21 in Woodruff Auditorium. These concerts provided a platform for younger students to showcase their vocal talents and marked a fitting conclusion to a season rich with artistic expression.

These spring fine arts events at Marist School exemplify the school’s commitment to nurturing artistic talent and integrating the arts into its educational framework. Through theater, visual arts, and music, students are not only encouraged to explore and develop their creative abilities but also to form lasting friendships and gain valuable life experiences. The arts at Marist School continue to play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded, culturally enriched individuals prepared to make meaningful contributions to the world.
